The short answer
Why use Avatar Crop?
Each site crops your upload to a circle on its own, and a face placed by eye ends up with the chin or hair cut off. Framing it against the same ring first, at a size large enough for any site, means one file works everywhere.
The frame is locked to 1:1. Width starts at 1024 and accepts 16 to 8000 pixels; Height follows it and cannot be typed. While you frame the photo, a ring marks the part that will show in a round avatar. After Create crop, the result screen dims everything outside the circle, but that dimming is only on screen and is not saved in the file.
The PNG is a full square with every pixel kept, corners included. That is what avatar uploads expect: the site stores the square and draws its own circle, sometimes after cropping it again. Keep the face well inside the ring with some room above the head, so a second crop by the site does not clip it.
Pick Circle Crop instead when you need a round file for a web page, a slide or a print, where nobody will cut the corners for you. WhatsApp DP and Discord PFP make the same full square at 640 and 512 pixels. Oval Crop is for an ellipse with transparent corners.

Avatar Crop tips
- Keep the eyes slightly above the center of the ring for a natural profile look.
- The dimmed corners on the result are only a preview; the file keeps them.
- Use a plain background, since the circle is shown very small next to comments and chat messages.
- Upload the same 1024 file to every account so your picture matches everywhere.
