What Sitemap Checker does

The sitemap checker reads the sitemap address you paste. If the URL does not end in .xml, it checks /sitemap.xml on that site instead. It does not read robots.txt. It parses sitemap files and indexes, and reports malformed XML, duplicate locations, lastmod values it cannot parse, and listed URLs that could not be reached.

The output separates document problems from URL checks, which helps when one sitemap index points to several child files. You can export the URL list for migration checks or compare it with the pages your site actually publishes.

Can this checker read a sitemap index?

Yes. It can parse an index, follow its sitemap files within the run limits, and keep document findings separate.

Does it submit the sitemap to Google?

No. It validates and exports the sitemap data. Submission remains in your search engine account or site configuration.

What does it check in lastmod?

It reports lastmod values that cannot be parsed as ISO 8601 dates. It cannot verify when your page content actually changed.
