Why use Square Image?
Instagram, WhatsApp, and many profile slots crop wide or tall photos to a square. Padding the photo yourself keeps every person and every edge in the frame.
Image size runs from 10 to 100% and starts at 90%. It sets how much of the square the photo's longest side fills, so 90% leaves a thin even margin on that side and a larger one on the short side. Background color starts at white. Square size is empty by default, which gives a square as large as the photo's longest side.
The photo is centered and scaled without changing its shape. Typing a Square size larger than the photo enlarges it, which can look soft; a smaller size shrinks it. For WhatsApp, 640 is plenty, and for an Instagram post, 1080. The download is a PNG, which can be large for camera photos, so compress it before uploading if needed.
Square Crop does the opposite trade: it cuts the photo to a square and fills the frame with no padding. WhatsApp DP crops to a 640 pixel square with a round guide. Add Border adds an equal frame on all sides but keeps the original shape, so it does not make a wide photo square.
