Why use Placeholder?
Placeholder services need a live URL and can disappear. A PNG saved from here is a real file you can drop into a mockup, a CMS draft, or a slide, and it works offline.
Width starts at 1200 and height at 800 pixels; each accepts 16 to 8000. Background starts at a warm light gray. Leave Placeholder text empty to print the dimensions, or type a label such as Hero image. The result updates as you type, so you can set the next size and download again without starting over.
The label size follows the width: about one eighteenth of it, and never smaller than 20 pixels. It is not shrunk to fit, so a long label on a narrow image runs off both sides. Keep labels short on tall, thin placeholders like a 300 × 600 sidebar banner. The text is dark gray, so very dark backgrounds make it hard to read.
Solid Color makes the same kind of flat image with no text at all. Random Image fills the canvas with noise, which is useful for testing compression. If you already have the real photo but at the wrong shape, Square Image or Resize Image will fit it to the slot instead.
