Why use Image Converter?
A site that only accepts JPEG, or a WebP download that an older program will not open, is a format problem rather than an editing one. Picking the target format from one list is quicker than installing a converter app.
Pick JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF in Output format; WebP is preselected. The lossy formats are written at 90% quality by the encoders from the Squoosh project (MozJPEG, libwebp and libavif, compiled to run in the browser). PNG goes through OxiPNG, which makes a smaller lossless file. Width and height are never changed.
Animated GIFs are read as their first frame only, so the result is a still image. SVG files are turned into pixels at the size written in the file, so a small icon SVG stays small; scale it up afterwards with Resize Image if needed. Choosing JPEG paints any transparent area white.
Use Compress Image when the goal is a smaller file and you want to pick the quality yourself. Use Resize Image when the pixel size is the problem. Image Converter is for the case where the picture is fine and only the format is wrong.
