The short answer
Why use Crop Image?
Cropping on a phone usually means opening a full editor, and its crop tool rarely tells you the pixel size. Here the Crop area panel shows the width, height and position in real image pixels while you drag.
The Aspect ratio list has Freeform, Square 1:1, Landscape 4:3, Widescreen 16:9 and Portrait 4:5. The Crop area panel reports the selection in real pixels, with X and Y counted from the top-left corner. The Width and Height boxes fill in from your selection by themselves. Type one of them, from 1 to 8000, and the other follows the frame's proportions.
A JPEG or WebP is saved back in the same format at 90% quality, so a cropped photo does not balloon into a heavy PNG. PNG, GIF and other inputs come out as PNG. A GIF is read as one still frame, so if you need the animation kept, use Crop GIF instead.
Crop Image only cuts rectangles. Square Crop is quicker when you always want a 1:1 PNG at a set size, 1200 pixels by default. Circle Crop and the other shape crops make the area outside a shape transparent. Perspective Crop flattens a page or screen photographed at an angle.

Crop Image tips
- Watch the Crop area panel: X and Y tell you exactly where the frame starts in the original.
- Choose Widescreen 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails and Portrait 4:5 for tall Instagram posts.
- Leave Width and Height alone to keep the selected pixels unscaled.
- A cropped GIF loses its animation; Crop GIF keeps every frame.
