Skew online

Skew slants an image sideways. A positive angle keeps the top edge in place and slides the bottom to the right; a negative angle keeps the bottom in place and slides the top to the right. Move the slider left or right of the middle to set the direction and amount, then download the skewed copy.

The short answer

Why use Skew?

A tilted, flipped, or distorted photo is distracting even when the picture is good. Here you can see the change as you make it and undo it easily.

Skew slides each row of the image sideways by an amount that changes evenly from the top edge to the bottom, so the rectangle becomes a parallelogram. The angle runs from −60° to 60° and starts at 15°. A positive angle keeps the top edge fixed and moves the bottom to the right. A negative angle keeps the bottom fixed and moves the top to the right, which is the forward lean of italic text.

The canvas widens so nothing is cut off. A 1000 × 1000 image skewed by 15° comes out about 1268 pixels wide, with a transparent triangle on each side. Crop Image can cut those away if you need a plain rectangle again, at the cost of the picture corners.

Skew only works horizontally and keeps straight lines straight. Perspective narrows the top or bottom so an image looks tilted away from you, and Warp bends lines into waves. Skew is the one for an italic-style slant on a logo or a banner.

Where Skew fits

01

Italic wordmarks

Give a logo a forward lean for a speed or sports look; that lean needs a negative angle.

02

Sale banners

Slant a headline image to add a sense of motion to a promo banner.

03

Slanted panels

Turn a rectangular photo into a parallelogram panel for a slide or thumbnail.

Skew tips

  • At the default 15° the canvas grows by about 27% of the image height; at 60° by about 1.7 times the height.
  • Flip the sign of the angle to lean the image the other way.
  • The side triangles are transparent in the PNG, so a skewed logo sits on any background.
  • Crop Image can cut the triangles off afterwards, but it also trims the picture corners.

Skew FAQ

Something missing? Ask us.

Why is the skewed image wider?

The canvas grows so no corner is cut off. The extra width is the tangent of the angle times the image height, and the two side triangles are transparent.

Does Skew upload my file?

No. Your browser does the work and clears the file when you leave the page. File names, pixels, and metadata are not sent to analytics.

Is Skew free to use?

Yes. No signup and no watermark.

Why did Skew fail or look wrong?

If the tab stops responding, the file is too big for this device's memory. iPhone HEIC photos may need exporting as JPEG first.
