GIF Viewer online

GIF Viewer is a free browser tool for playing an animated GIF and checking its frames and timing. The frames are unpacked in your browser, changed, and saved as a new file. Your original file stays as it was.

The short answer

Why use GIF Viewer?

A GIF that stops early or looks wrong usually comes down to its frame count, size, or loop setting. This shows all three without a video editor and changes nothing.

GIF Viewer plays the animation and reports three facts: the number of frames, the width and height, and whether the GIF loops forever, loops a set number of times, or plays once. That last one explains the common complaint that a GIF stops in one app and keeps looping in another.

Every frame is decoded to check the file, with a limit of 300 frames and 200 megapixels of total frame area. The download is the original GIF, unchanged.

To save the individual frames, use Extract GIF Frames. To change the playback speed, use GIF Speed Changer, and to drop one bad frame, GIF Frame Remover.

GIF Viewer tips

  • A status of plays once explains a GIF that stops after a single run.
  • Files over 300 frames or 200 megapixels of total frame area are refused.
  • Note the frame count before you open GIF Frame Remover, which asks for a frame number.
  • To make the animation faster or slower, use GIF Speed Changer.

GIF Viewer FAQ

Something missing? Ask us.

Why does my GIF play once in one app and loop in another?

A GIF stores its own loop setting, and some apps ignore it. GIF Viewer shows what the file asks for: loop forever, a set number of times, or once.

Does GIF Viewer upload my file?

No. Your browser does the work and clears the file when you leave the page. File names, pixels, and metadata are not sent to analytics.

Is GIF Viewer free to use?

Yes. No signup and no watermark.

Why did GIF Viewer fail or look wrong?

Check GIF timing and the 256-color palette. If the tab stops responding, the file is too big for this device's memory.
