The short answer
Why use Adjust Channels?
A photo with a green cast from office lights, or a red one from a sunset, needs one channel changed and the others left alone. Here you touch only the channel you pick.
Choose Red, Green, Blue, or Alpha from the Channel menu. Amount multiplies that channel by twice its value as a fraction: 50 keeps it the same, 70 (the default) is 1.4 times, 100 is double, and 0 removes the channel completely. The other three channels are not touched.
Raising a channel cannot go past full strength, so bright areas reach the limit and lose detail in that color first. With Alpha, values below 50 make the whole image partly see-through, but values above 50 cannot make fully transparent pixels visible again, because zero times anything is zero.
Color Temperature moves red and blue in opposite directions in one slider, which is quicker for white balance. Extract Channel shows a single channel as a grayscale image so you can see it. For a gentle, overall color wash rather than a channel change, use Tint.
