The short answer

Why use Sprite Sheet Slicer?

Adding a border, label, arrow, or second image should not need a big design app. Set it up, check the preview, and download one flat image.

Enter the number of columns and rows, each from 1 to 20. The sheet is divided into equal cells, and each cell is saved as its own PNG inside a ZIP, named tile-row-column.png and starting with tile-1-1 at the top left.

The slicer assumes the frames touch, with no gaps. If the sheet has padding between sprites or a margin around the edge, every frame after the first drifts a little further off. Crop the outer margin away with Crop Image first. When the width does not divide evenly, the last column and the last row take the leftover pixels, so they can be a pixel or two wider.

Every tile is a PNG, so transparency survives. Image Splitter uses the same grid logic for photos you want to print or post in pieces.

Sprite Sheet Slicer tips

  • Columns and Rows each go from 1 to 20, and both start at 2.
  • Crop the outer margin away first, or every frame drifts a little further off.
  • Frames are named tile-row-column.png, so tile-1-1 is the top-left sprite.
  • When the width does not divide evenly, the last column takes the spare pixels.

Sprite Sheet Slicer FAQ

Something missing? Ask us.

What if my sprite sheet has gaps between frames?

Crop the outer margin off first. The slicer divides the sheet into equal cells, so spacing between sprites shifts each frame a little.

Does Sprite Sheet Slicer upload my file?

No. Your browser does the work and clears the file when you leave the page. File names, pixels, and metadata are not sent to analytics.

Is Sprite Sheet Slicer free to use?

Yes. No signup and no watermark.

Why did Sprite Sheet Slicer fail or look wrong?

If the tab stops responding, the file is too big for this device's memory. iPhone HEIC photos may need exporting as JPEG first.
