Why use Shutter Count?
A used camera's shutter count is a rough guide to wear, and sellers do not always share it. Checking a sample photo is a first step before you ask for proof another way.
The tool first reads the camera maker notes: Nikon stores the count in tag 0x00A7 and newer Fujifilm bodies in tag 0x1438. It then checks the standard ImageCount, ShutterCount and ShutterCount2 fields. Any value it finds is listed. If none is present, the report says No shutter count is stored in this file, followed by the image's size details, and the result can be saved as a .txt file.
Be realistic about what to expect. Canon, Sony and Pentax usually show no count: the number stays inside the camera or sits in encrypted maker notes. Editing apps, chat apps and galleries often strip maker notes too, so even a Nikon file can come back empty. A missing count does not mean the camera is new, only that this file does not carry the number.
EXIF Viewer shows every standard tag in the file, which helps confirm the camera model, date and settings of a sample shot. If the count matters for a purchase, ask the seller for a photo of the camera's service or info screen, where some brands display it.

Shutter Count tips
- Ask the seller for the newest photo the camera has taken, not an old one.
- Nikon and newer Fujifilm files give the best chance of a result.
- Edited or resized copies often lose camera fields entirely.
- No result is not proof of a low count; ask for the camera's info screen.
