The short answer
Why use PPI Checker?
File details explain why a photo prints badly, turns sideways, or reveals more than you meant. Checking the file first saves guesswork.
The tool looks for the resolution value in three places, in this order: the EXIF tags, the JFIF header of a JPEG, and the pHYs chunk of a PNG. When it finds one, it shows the value and the print size it implies. Values stored per centimeter are converted to per inch.
If none of those places has a value, you get the print size at 300 and at 150 PPI instead, along with the pixel dimensions. That is the normal result for screenshots and pictures saved from websites, and it says nothing bad about quality. Pixels decide print sharpness: a 3000-pixel-wide photo prints 10 inches wide at 300 PPI whatever number the file stores.
PPI Checker and DPI Checker read the same tag and give the same answer. To work out sizes for a print order, use Print Size.

PPI Checker tips
- No tag is normal for screenshots; the report then lists print sizes at 300 and 150 PPI.
- Changing the stored number alone never adds sharpness; the pixel count decides that.
- Values stored per centimeter are converted to per inch for you.
- Width in pixels divided by 300 gives the print width in inches at photo quality.
