Add Timestamp online

Add Timestamp stamps a date and time in the bottom-right corner of your photo, like an old film camera. It fills in the date the photo was taken when the file has one, and you can type any other date or text.

The short answer

Why use Add Timestamp?

A date in the corner shows when a photo was taken without a separate caption. Doing it by hand means looking up the date and placing the text; here the capture date is filled in for you.

When you open a photo, the Text field fills with the date and time it was taken, read from the camera data stored in the file. If there is no capture date, which is common for screenshots and pictures saved from chat apps, it uses the date the file was last changed. You can type over it with any date or text.

The stamp is bold white text with a thin dark outline, so it stays readable on a bright sky, and it sits in the bottom-right corner. Text size runs from 10 to 180 and scales with the photo, and long text shrinks to fit the width instead of running off the edge.

The stamp becomes part of the pixels in the download, not hidden metadata, so it cannot be taken off later. Keep the original if you might need a clean copy. The result is saved as a PNG.

Add Timestamp tips

  • Text size starts at 42 and runs from 10 to 180, scaled to the photo.
  • Screenshots rarely carry a capture date, so read the Text field before you apply.
  • Set Text color to a warm orange to copy the date look of a 90s film camera.
  • The stamp is part of the pixels, so keep the original if you may need a clean copy.

Add Timestamp FAQ

Something missing? Ask us.

Does it read the date the photo was taken?

Yes, when the photo has one. It reads the capture date from the camera data in the file. Screenshots and photos from chat apps often have none, and then the date the file was last changed is used. Check it before you apply.

Can I move the timestamp to another corner?

Not yet. The stamp always sits in the bottom-right corner. For free placement, use Add Text to Image.

Does Add Timestamp upload my file?

No. Your browser does the work and clears the file when you leave the page. File names, pixels, and metadata are not sent to analytics.

Is Add Timestamp free to use?

Yes. No signup and no watermark.

Why did Add Timestamp fail or look wrong?

If the tab stops responding, the file is too big for this device's memory. iPhone HEIC photos may need exporting as JPEG first.
