The short answer
Why use Glitch Effect?
The glitch look is popular for music covers, gaming thumbnails and tech posters. In an editor it takes three channel layers and hand-cut strips; here it is one slider.
The split width follows Amount, 0 to 100, which opens at 50. Red and blue move in opposite directions by the image width times Amount divided by 3600, about 1.4% of the width at the default. Then thin horizontal strips, 6 at the default and 13 at 100, slide left or right by one to four times that distance. The gap a strip leaves at one edge is filled with the unshifted image, not wrapped around from the other side.
Even at 0 there is a 1 pixel split and three shifted strips, so the image is never fully clean. Each strip is the image height divided by four times the strip count, so strips get thinner as Amount adds more of them, but the first strips always start on the same rows. If a strip cuts through a face, crop the photo slightly so the face moves.
Pixelate gives a blocky digital look without color fringes. Halftone gives print dots. For a VHS feel, add Film Grain after the glitch, keeping its Amount low enough that the shifted strips still read clearly. The glitch PNG has the same pixel size as your original.

Glitch Effect tips
- Strips land at fixed heights; crop a little if one slices through an eye.
- Amount 20 gives a light RGB fringe that still keeps text readable.
- Bold text and logos show the channel split more clearly than soft photos.
- Add Film Grain afterwards at a low Amount for a worn VHS feel.
