Filters & Effects

Each tool here changes the look of the whole photo, with a live preview as you move the slider. There are tone filters like Grayscale and Sepia, drawing styles like Pencil Sketch and Cartoon, print looks like Halftone and Dithering, and digital looks like Pixelate and Glitch. To change only part of a picture, the Blur & Focus tools keep a chosen area sharp.

Files stay in your browser.

Similar effects, different results

  • Grayscale: Removes color fully or partly and keeps the shading. Threshold, in Color & Adjustments, goes further and leaves only pure black and pure white.
  • Pencil Sketch: Gray hand-drawn strokes on a light page. Edge Detection gives bright outlines on black instead, closer to a technical trace.
  • Cartoon: Boosts color, flattens it, and darkens the edges in one pass. Posterize flattens color into a few levels but draws no outlines.
  • Pixelate: Turns the picture into large square blocks. Mosaic runs the same block effect. To hide one face or plate, use Blur Face or License Plate Blur, which pixelate only a box.
  • Dithering: Cuts the image to 2 to 64 colors and scatters pixels to fake the missing shades, with Floyd–Steinberg, Atkinson, Stucki, or Sierra patterns.
  • Halftone: Redraws the picture as a grid of dots that grow in dark areas, like a newspaper photo.
  • Film Grain: Sprinkles gray grain over the photo for an analog scan look. Add Noise in Add Elements uses the same kind of grain.
  • ASCII Art: Turns the picture into up to 100 columns of text characters that you can copy and paste.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stack several filters on one photo?

Not on one page. Each tool applies one effect. Download the result, then open that file in the next filter. Run the strongest look last so it does not flatten the earlier ones.

What is the difference between halftone and dithering?

Both fake shading with dots. Halftone uses a regular grid of round dots that get bigger in dark areas. Dithering limits the picture to a few colors and mixes pixels of those colors, the way old games and early printers drew gradients.

Which filter makes a photo look like a drawing?

Pencil Sketch for gray pencil lines, Cartoon for bold flat color with dark edges, Oil Painting for soft brush-like patches, and Edge Detection for bare outlines.

Do filters reduce the size of my image?

No. The effect is drawn at the photo's own width and height and saved as a new PNG, up to 50 megapixels. Your original file is left as it was.
