Color Replacer online

Color Replacer finds every pixel close to a color you pick and recolors it to a new one, keeping its light and shade. Change a shirt, a logo color, or a painted wall, and download a PNG.

The short answer

Why use Color Replacer?

Selecting one color by hand with a magic wand and repainting it usually leaves flat, fake-looking patches. Here the new color takes over the hue while each pixel keeps its own lightness.

Color to match starts at pure green, #00ff00, and Color, the replacement, at #c81e4b. Tolerance, 0 to 100 with 42 as the default, sets how far a pixel's color can be from the match and still count. Amount starts at 100. Pixels near the edge of the tolerance are blended in partly, so the border is soft.

Matching works on plain red, green, and blue distance, so a dark shadow and a bright highlight on the same object may fall outside the range while a similar color elsewhere is caught. Raise Tolerance a few points at a time and watch the background. Because lightness is kept, a dark object stays dark in its new color.

Color Changer and Tint recolor the whole picture instead of swapping one color, so the background changes too. Hue Adjust rotates every color at once by an angle. Selective Color uses the same match settings but drains the color from everything outside the match, for the color-splash look.

Color Replacer tips

  • Pick the match color from a mid-tone, not a highlight or shadow.
  • Raise Tolerance by about five at a time, checking that nothing in the background changes.
  • White or black as the new color gives gray, since lightness is kept.
  • Amount starts at 100; lower it for a partial swap.

Color Replacer FAQ

Something missing? Ask us.

Why are the shadows on my shirt still the old color?

Shadows and highlights can sit too far from the color you matched. Raise Tolerance until they are caught, or pick a Color to match taken from a mid-tone part of the object.

Can I replace a color with white or black?

Not really. The new color gives the hue and strength of color, while lightness comes from the original pixel. White or black has no hue, so matching pixels turn gray instead.

Does Color Replacer upload my file?

No. Your browser does the work and clears the file when you leave the page. File names, pixels, and metadata are not sent to analytics.

Is Color Replacer free to use?

Yes. No signup and no watermark.

Why did Color Replacer fail or look wrong?

If the tab stops responding, the file is too big for this device's memory. iPhone HEIC photos may need exporting as JPEG first.
