Background

Background has three narrow tools. Remove White BG clears white that touches the edges of a picture, Green Screen Remover clears strong green, and Trim Transparent crops away empty transparent space afterwards. They work by color and do not recognize a subject, so they suit product shots, logos, scans, and green-screen stills much better than everyday photos.

Files stay in your browser.

Clearing a background, step by step

  • Remove White BG: Starts at the edges and clears connected white, so white inside the subject, like eyes or a white shirt, stays. Raise Tolerance from the default 12% for off-white or lightly shadowed backgrounds.
  • Green Screen Remover: Clears a pixel when its green is clearly stronger than its red and blue. Tolerance sets how much stronger: higher values clear only vivid green, lower values also take paler green spill.
  • Trim Transparent: Run it after either remover. It crops to the smallest box that still holds every visible pixel, so a logo with wide empty margins becomes a tight PNG.
  • Lasso Tool: For a photo with a busy background, the color tools will not work. Click points around the subject and everything outside the outline turns transparent.
  • Eraser: Brushes leftover specks and halos away to transparency after a color-based removal.
  • Square Image: Puts a transparent cutout on a solid color of your choice inside a square canvas, when a site wants a plain background rather than none.

Frequently asked questions

Can these tools remove the background from any photo?

No. They clear pixels by color: white for Remove White BG and strong green for Green Screen Remover. A person standing in a room or on a street needs a cutout instead. Trace the outline with Lasso Tool, then tidy the edges with Eraser.

Why is there a white halo around my cutout?

Edge pixels mix the subject with the white behind it, so they are slightly gray or tinted and fall outside the tolerance. Raise Tolerance a little, check the preview closely, and stop before light parts of the subject start to vanish.

Why did Remove White BG keep the white inside my logo?

By default it only clears white connected to the image edges, so white parts of the design survive. Turn on Also clear enclosed white areas to clear every white pixel, including the inside of letters like O and A.

What format is the result saved in?

PNG, because it keeps transparency. Saving as JPEG would fill the cleared areas with a solid color.
